Have you met Brother Andrew?

Book recommendation of the month! Title: God's Smuggler. Author: Brother Andrew.

More than anything else, I love reading or hearing stories of God showcasing Himself, and that's what the book is. It's about a man, known only as Brother Andrew due to the nature of his work, and how God got ahold of his life and gave him a ministry. He made many trips behind the Communist Iron Curtain to encourage the persecuted church and distribute Bibles. Many pastors and entire churches didn't own even one Bible! The stories are exciting and more incredible than any fiction, and testify to the faithfulness of our God. I was left praising God, as well as burdened to pray for the modern persecuted church.

There's also a "sequel" - the story of Brother Andrew's later work with Muslims, called Secret Believers. That's next on my reading list!

  1. Ah! Another recommendation for this book! Alright, it is now on my summer reading list. I recommend for you "Run Baby Run" which is the life of Nicky Cruz (one of the gang members that David Wilkinson ministered to). I haven't read "The Cross and the Switchblade" yet but that is on my summer list as well. You've read "Heavenly Man" right?

  2. Valerie recommended "Run Baby Run" also - they read it for school this year. The Cross and the Switchblade is amazing. No, I haven't read Heavenly Man yet... I'll have to look it up.

  3. I read God's Smuggler awhile ago, 7 or 8 years ago I think. It was a good book, though I read it so long ago I don't remember a lot of specifics. I would also strongly recommend reading "The Heavenly Man." GREAT book. Corey, I haven't read Nicky Cruz' book but if you are interested in Mafia stories with a Christian twist check out Blood Covenant, by Michael Franzese. He was a high-profile mob boss who became a Christian and now preaches all over. Many people who follow his preaching are continually amazed that the mob hasn't killed him. Proof of God's power!

Well, hope summer is treating you guys well! I'm taking two summer classes and studying for the GRE, so I'm super busy. After that, I'm moving to Wisconsin in late June and (if I get in) starting the Master's of Professional Clinical Counseling program at Grace College. The first two years are online and then I'll be moving to Indiana. Cheers.
