I dreaded my thirteenth birthday. I did not want to be known as a teenager - that disagreeable term that conveyed stereotypes of lazy, rebellious, selfish creatures. However, it couldn't be avoided, and I turned 13 anyway. Gradually, and with a little help from Do Hard Things, I realized that the stereotype didn't matter. My actual character did. Teenagers can be good or bad, just like any age person. Having said that, I am happy to announce that as of today, I am no longer a teenager! Hurray! Hang in there, my brothers and sisters. Be one of the good ones.
This is a pre-written and -scheduled post, as I am at this moment in Ohio on my first official missions trip! :)

Oh my goodness, Happy Birthday!! I didn't realize you were 20 already! I hope the missions trip goes well. When your Mom rsvp'd for Sammy & Jason's reception she said you were going to be gone, and I was bummed!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Do Hard Things is awesome! Alex and Brett have a lot of great articles on their website...I particularly like their youtube video series titled "the fabulous life of a teenager." So sad to hear about their mother passing away from cancer earlier this month.
ReplyDeleteYeah, character definitely matters more than age or stereotypes. 1 Timothy 4:12. Right now I'm reading Benjamin Franklin's autobiography, and he talks extensively of character. He definitely was (and still is) one of the greatest Americans who ever lived. His accomplishments are varied and amazing, autobiography is well worth reading, if you're interested. And it's a great testament to the power of young adult years used well!
Hope your missions trip goes fantastically. Give us all an update upon your return!
